Another way to see the border issue

I have heard the number "3 million illegal immigrants per year" as regards our borders. I don't know if this refers to the number of illegals currently crossing or the number expected after Dubya's amnesty-but-we-won't-call-it-amnesty program is enacted, but for the sake of argument, let us say that is the predicted number to attempt to cross this year.

Let us assume that current efforts interdict two thirds of them. That leaves 1 million getting through. I think you can see I'm erring on the side of catching a higher percentage of them is probably the actual case.

Let us further assume a conservative number of these are Mexican nationals fleeing their hearth and home to sneak across a river and through the desert, paying some unbathed coyote their life-savings, just to come to America. Imagine what a dung heap Mexico must be to cause someone to want to leave this desperately. I mean, even if I lived in Pasadena, I'd still not cross hundreds of miles in dangerous conditions just to leave. Maybe if I lived in Austin, I'd have a different opinion.

Let's assume that the number of Mexicans is 70%. That means that 300,000 of the "winners" who made it across to steal our hospital services and drive down our wage base as well as our collective educational level and standard of living, are not from Mexico.

Now, let us further assume, of the remaining 300,000, that only 2% of them are Muslim. That's 6,000 of them. Let us assume that 1% of these are jihadis intent on attacking the US when given the codeword in one of Osama's broadcast videos, sorta like the plot of that one really bad James Bond Movie with George Lazenby and Kojak as the guy with the white cat.

We have 60 people sneaking in, determined to blow themselves up in a mall on Christmas Eve, or wanting to poison a water supply in a small town, or determined to spread hoof and mouth disease to our cattle, or wanting to release a small jar of aerosolized anthrax during the Cotton Bowl, or wanting to do any other horror you want to imagine.

This is one per week. Remember the state of the country when the snipers attacked in the Washington, DC, metro area? Imagine what could happen with 30 times that number, each and every year. Will we just grow accustomed to it, as we have asked the Israelis to do? Will we stand for it?

Whose fault will it be?

I hope Dubya and the Congress are listening.

I'm confused! Maybe I need enlightening!

It's a country's right to defend its borders, is it not?

Those who wish to enter another country should do so legally through the correct channels (not a channel in a river under the cloak of darkness!)...those who illegally enter a country, should be sent back to their country of origin. If he/she/they fail to abide by this law, then he/she/they should be dealt with accordingly...simple!

You can bet your bottom dollar if I tried entering the US illegally...or overstayed my visa...I'd be promptly put in jail...and quickly thereafter thrown aboard the next flight back to Australia! There's no way I could command preferential treatment! It doesn't take a wild imagination to know what would happen to me if I marched down the streets of a US city, placard in hand, shouting out about my rights!!!!!!!!
