Indians cast to play Indians

What a switch! Does anyone else remember them casting just about anyone as an American Indian back in the 1970's? I can't find a web picture of it, but the side kick from the Wild Wild West was often an "indian," by giving him a long, straight black wig.

Apparently, that's the only thing that distinguishes Indians from Anglos - long, straight, dark hair.

The other credentials they had to have was know how to say 'How!' and look good on a horse in a loincloth!

I think Kevin Costner with "Dances with Wolves" was a leader in that department.

Oh! Also again Mel Gibson...when he hired Scotsmen to play Scotsmen in 'Braveheart'! ;)

Fair Dinkum, mate! Even the Aussies used Mel Gibson to play an Aussie in 'Mad Max' (1 & 2), 'Tim', 'Gallipoli' amongst others!

I just had to add, Don...I can't help myself...you have long, straight, dark hair...or did until you had a haircut!

Do you know how to say 'How'?

I know how to say 'When'? What's that make me?

It's my Cherokee ancestry coming to the fore. I look like my grandfather, who looked like his grandfather, who was full-blooded Cherokee.

Yes, I look vaguely indian, but that's not my beef. It's the old 1970's shows with white guys or asian guys with long wigs cast to play indians.

At least Mel Gibson goes for reality.

I guess my Aussie humour has gotten me into trouble once more! I understood your 'beef' and concur.

I've not seen you on a horse in a loin-cloth...that's you in a loin-cloth, not the horse! Whoops...I'll take my jokes and sneak off Down Under! ;)

Lee, I've got the horse and will make a loin cloth! C'mon down! I'm sure we could convince him he would look good! I'll be the cowgirl and he could be the Indian!

I give Mel a lot of credit here. Kuddos!

Just remember that I take a custom-made loincloth: 34 inch waist, and 36 inch inseam. More like a loin blanket, really. ;)

Almost too much information! We can do without the loincloth.

BTW, I am not trying to make a point or anything. Thinking about all the nameless fakes caused me to remember these gentlemen.
